Robert Downey Jr. has signed on to voice Mr. Peabody in DreamWorks’ Peabody and Sherman, based on the character from Rocky and His Friends and The Bullwinkle Show.
Mr. Peabody is a talking genius dog and Sherman is his pet boy and the pair would travel through time and discover things about history’s greatest figures.
“Certainly for Boomers, they’re in the sweet spot of our childhood animation memories, but beyond there it gets a little bit, well, not quite as familiar,” says director Rob Minkoff . “Mr. Peabody is this genetic anomaly. He does have brothers and sisters, all of them non-speaking, no super-smart dogs. He’s an outcast, but has overcome it by being so great at so many things.”
The 3D animated feature, written by Jeffrey Ventimilia and Joshua Sternin, is planned for 2014.
