Theatrical Releases for August 26th: ‘Colombiana’ Fires Into Theaters

Colombiana, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and other films hit theaters this weekend. We’ve got the full breakdown of new releases for you below!

Brighton Rock (NR), Drama – The story centers on a small-time gangster who kills a rival and finds his life in turmoil as he faces blackmail threats from a waitress (Andrea Riseborough) who knows about the murder. Stars Andrea Riseborough, Sam Riley, and Pete Poslethwaite.

BuzzKill (NR), Comedy – A struggling writer, Ray Wyatt, acquires fame when a notorious murderer steals his car and the newest draft of his script. Stars Krysten Ritter and Darrell Hammond.

Chasing Madoff (NR), Documentary – The true-life tale of investigator Harry Markopolos’ meticulous, decade-long fight to reveal Madoff’s widely destructive Ponzi scheme.

Circumstance (R), Drama – A wealthy family in Iran struggling to contain a teen’s growing sexual rebellion. Stars Nikohl Boosheri and Sarah Kazemy.

Colombiana (PG-13), Action – A young woman who, after witnessing her parents’ murder as a child in Bogota, grows up to be a stone-cold assassin. She works for her uncle as a hitman by day, but her personal time is spent engaging in vigilante murders that she hopes will lead her to her ultimate target: the mobster responsible for her parents’ death. Stars Zoe Saldana, Michael Vartan, and Amandla Stenberg.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (R), Horror – A young girl is sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend and discovers sinister creatures that live underneath the stairs. Stars Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce, and Bailee Madison.

Higher Ground (R), Biography – Pregnant at seventeen, married a few months later, by the age of 18 a young woman found herself living in Iowa in a trailer with no plans beyond having more babies-until she found Jesus. Stars Vera Farmiga, Taissa Farmiga, and Donna Murphy.

Our Idiot Brother (R), Comedy – An idealist, hounded by his overbearing mother, crashes into the homes of his three ambitious sisters and brings truth, happiness and a sunny disposition while also wreaking havoc. Stars Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, and Zooey Deschanel.

Rebirth (NR), Documentary – The nearly ten-year transformation of five people whose lives were forever altered on September 11, 2001.

Redemption Road (NR), Drama – Two seemingly different men embark on a music-steeped journey through the American South, learning along the way that life isn’t about where you end up – it’s how you get there that matters. Stars Michael Clarke Duncan, Morgan Simpson, and Kiele Sanchez.

Shut Up Little Man (NR), Documentary – When two friends tape-recorded the fights of their violently noisy neighbors, they accidentally created one of the world’s first ‘viral’ pop-culture sensations.

Special Treatment (NR), Drama – A high class prostitute and an eminent psychoanalyst discover that they share many things in common. They are both unhappy with their professions, seeking a way out that involves unique contact with each other’s worlds. Stars Isabelle Huppert, Bouli Lanners, and Sabila Moussadek.

Suing The Devil (NR), Comedy – A down-and-out law student sues Satan for $8 trillion dollars. Satan appears to defend himself and the trial of the century takes place. Stars Malcolm McDowell, Shannen Fields, and Corbin Bernsen.

Swinging with the Finkels (R), Comedy – A bored suburban couple that decides to spice up their sex life by swinging. Stars Mandy Moore, Martin Freeman, and Melissa George.

The Caller (R), Horror – Troubled divorcee Mary Kee is tormented by a series of sinister phone calls from a mysterious woman claiming that she’s calling from the past. Stars Stephen Moyer, Rachelle Lefevre, and Luis Guzman.

The Family Tree (R), Comedy – when the Burnett family seems a lost cause, they get an unlikely and unexpected second chance at happiness when an unusual accident leaves one member with a case of amnesia. Stars Hope Davis, Dermot Mulroney, and Max Theriot.
