Theatrical Releases for January 13th: ‘Joyful Noise’ And More Hit Theaters

Albatross (NR), Comedy – Emelia Conan-Doyle is the 17 year old heir to the legacy of Arthur Conan Doyle. Harboring an ambition to follow in the literary footsteps of her grandfather, she writes while working at a stuffy seaside hotel populated by another blocked novelist and his family. She begins to inch her way into their family life before casually seducing the sexually-frustrated Jonathan, forcing all involved to confront some uncomfortable truths about their situation. Stars Jessica Brown Findlay, Sebastian Koch, and Julia Ormond.

Beauty and the Beast 3D (Anomation), Family – The fantastic journey of Belle, a bright and beautiful young woman who’s taken prisoner by a hideous beast in his castle. Despite her precarious situation, Belle befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and ultimately learns to see beneath the Beast’s exterior to discover the heart and soul of a prince. Stars the voices of Robby Benson, Richard White, and Jerry Orbach.

Contraband (R), Action – Chris Farraday long ago abandoned his life of crime, but after his brother-in-law botches a drug deal for his ruthless boss he is forced back into doing what he does best— running contraband—to settle the debt. Stars Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, and Ben Foster.

Don’t Go in the Woods (NR), Horror – A young band heads to the woods to get away from their everyday lives in order to focus on writing new songs. Hoping to walk away from the trip with new tunes that will score them their big break, they instead find themselves in the middle of a nightmare beyond comprehension. Stars Bo Boddie, Eric Bogosian, and Gwynn Galitzer.

Joyful Noise (PG-13), Comedy – The small town of Pacashau, Georgia, has fallen on hard times, but the people are counting on the Divinity Church Choir to lift their spirits by winning the National Joyful Noise Competition. The choir has always known how to sing in harmony, but the discord between its two leading ladies now threatens to tear them apart. Stars Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, and Keke Palmer.

The Divide (NR), Action – Set in New York City as civilization collapses, eight survivors huddle in a bomb shelter and begin to turn on each other as they wait for a rescue. Stars Lauren German, Milo Ventimiglia, and Michael Biehn.
