‘Hunger Games’ Breaks Box Office Records And Surpasses ‘Twilight’

The Hunger Games made history this weekend opening with a shocking $155 million at the domestic box office! The film slips into the third biggest debut of all time, and the best opening of any film not released in the summer!

Overseas, the film opened to $59.3 million bringing the opening weekend worldwide release to $214.3 million. Hunger Games already has surpassed all of the Twilight films, and doesn’t show any sign of slowing down.

“It was the perfect storm. Having the first film in a franchise to be so gigantic is amaing. We had a great book and a great director in Gary Ross.” commented Tim Palen, Lionsgate president of marketing.
