Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope (PG-13), Documentary – A feature documentary that will follow seven people from around the world as they travel to Comic-Con in San Diego.

Damsels in Distress (PG-13), Comedy – The movie revolves around a group of style-obsessed college girls who take in a new student and teach her their misguided ways of helping people at their grungy university. The crux of the story is focused on the relationship between the new girl and a suitor, whom the girls are taken with but have doubts over his intentions. Stars Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody, and Analeigh Tipton.

Detention (NR), Fantasy – The film follows a group of teens who struggle to survive their senior year of high school when a slasher-movie killer seemingly comes to life. Stars Josh Hutcherson, Dane Cook, and Shanley Caswell.

Keyhole (R), Thriller – After a long absence, gangster and father Ulysses Pick arrives home to a house haunted with memories, towing the body of a teenage girl and a bound and gagged young man. His gang waits inside his house, having shot their way past police. There is friction in the ranks. Ulysses, however, is focused on one thing: journeying through the house, room by room, and reaching his wife Hyacinth in her bedroom upstairs. The equilibrium of the house has been disturbed and his odyssey eventually becomes an emotional tour, as the ghostly nooks and crannies of the house reveal more about the mysterious Pick family. Stars Jason Patric and Isabella Rossellini.

Player Hating: A Love Story (NR), Documentary – Follows Half-a-Mill and his Brooklyn crew, The Godfia Criminals, as they struggle to launch Milion, in an effort to attain money, success and recognition through music.

Take Me Home (PG-13), Comedy – After getting turned down by a photography agency, Thom finds his landlord throwing all of his belongings out into the hallway. With no job prospects and no place to sleep, Thom must turn to his recurring last resort: driving his illegal taxicab around the streets of New York. Fortunately for him, Claire Barrow isn’t having a good day, either. First she comes home to find her husband flirting with his new secretary, and then discovers her estranged father has suffered a heart attack in California. In a frenzy, Claire runs out into the night and hails what she assumes to be a cab. What she gets instead is Thom. With her life in ruins, Claire decides on a whim to pay Thom to drive her out to California. With nothing in New York to call his own, Thom reluctantly agrees. Stars Sam Jaeger.

The Hunter (R), Thriller – Martin, a skilled and ruthless mercenary, travels into the Tasmanian wilderness on a hunt for a tiger believed to be extinct. Hired by an anonymous company that wants the tiger’s genetic material, Martin arrives in Tasmania posing as a scientist. He proceeds to set up base camp at a broken-down farmhouse, where he stays with a family whose father has gone missing. Usually a loner, Martin becomes increasingly close to the family; however, as his attachment to the family grows, Martin is led down a path of unforeseen dangers, complicating his deadly mission. Stars Willem Dafoe, Sam Neill, and Frances O’Connor.

This Binary Universe (NR), Documentary – In this world of wonders there are still places that have not been smoothed over with the shallow surfaces of Western commercialism. This film is a personal Valentine to a life filled with amazing, exotic, beautiful and fearsome places for the world. The amazing thing is not just the visual demonstration of how fleeting life is, but a meditation on how the decisions that seem momentous on our time scale are flickering snapshots of life on this planet, too small to be observed by most. Somehow the music combined with technology becomes a personal experience that makes the earth and its inhabitants seem touchingly fragile and full of wonder.

We Have a Pope (NR), Comedy – Follows the story of Melville, a cardinal who suddenly finds himself elected as the next Pope. Never the front runner and completely caught off guard, he panics as he’s presented to the faithful in St. Peter’s Square. To prevent a worldwide crisis, the Vatican’s spokesman calls in an unlikely psychiatrist who is neither religious or all that committed to find out what is wrong with the new Pope. As the world nervously waits outside, inside the therapist tries to find a solution. But Cardinal Melville is adamant: he does not want the job, or at least needs time to think it over. What follows is a marvelous insight into the concept of a human being existing behind the title of God’s representative on Earth. Stars Michel Piccoli.

We The Party (R), Comedy – Five friends deal with romance, money, prom, college, sex, bullies, facebook, fitting in, standing out, and finding themselves. Stars Mario Van Peebles.

  1. Going to see Detention tonight – and talking with the director in the morning! I’ll let you guys know how it is 🙂

  2. Wow! The ONLY one of these playing here is “American Reunion”. I’m super curious about “Detention”, having seen the contest for tickets posted earlier, but outside of Fanbolt I’ve seen nor heard any mention of the film anywhere! How is it all of these films are coming out today and totally bypassing me?? Jeepers!
