‘The Mummy’ Is Getting A Reboot

Universal Pictures is planning to reboot The Mummy franchise, and they have brought Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) onboard to write.

Spaihts says, “I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with Prometheus. To go back to a franchise’s roots in dark, scary source material, and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven’t seen before.”

The Mummy was originally released in 1932, with four sequels and one spoof film following. In 1999, Stephen Sommers’ remade the film, which started its own trilogy as well as a spinoff trilogy for The Scorpion King.
