DVD Review: Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince

Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort’s defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Even as the decisive showdown looms, romance blossoms for Harry, Ron, Hermione and their classmates. Love is in the air, but danger lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same..

Review:
It’s the darkest of the Harry Potter films yet, and my personal favorite thus far. While the film does loose a little of its magic when not on the big screen, it’s still a fabulous film that should be in your collection along with its predecessors.

Voldemort has his eyes set on taking down Hogwarts and finding his way to Harry Potter. Dumbledore is intent on making sure Harry Potter is prepared for the ultimate fight that is drawing nearer – but some unexpected turn of events might just change Hogwarts forever. Not to mention that our favorite characters have finally started to grow up – and they have a little bit more than just magic on their minds.

This 6th installment is one of the longest yet more entertaining films in the series. The darker tone met with the more mature territory helps to create a feeling that the series is becoming more epic. The more sinister threats make it obvious that the films are growing older along with their fanbase. I was still in high school when the first film came out, and I feel, that in a way, it’s kept me intouch with a part of my childhood. I’ll be truly sad when the series comes to an end in 2011. Though I absolutely cannot wait for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.”

The special features on this one are nice too. They include additional scenes, a sneak peek at the new Harry Potter resort in Orlando, FL, and a number of featurettes with your favorite cast members as they guide you through the different aspects of movie making.
