Review:
Just like last year’s Wall-e, Up is a masterpiece and hands down the best animated feature of 2009. I don’t think it’s possible for Pixar to make a film that doesn’t wow us.

Up tells the story of Carl Fredricksen, a retired balloon salesman. In the spirit of chasing his childhood dreams, Carl attaches thousands of balloons to his house and sets off to find the lost world he had dreamt about for so long. All is going splendidly, when Carl hears a knock at the door. Something he didn’t expect to hear since he was thousands of miles up in the air. When he opens the door, he is greeted by a terrified overeager 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer. The two quickly develop an unlikely bond and continue on an adventure that will lead them to meet new friends and a suprising enemy.

What makes Up so great is the heart strings it pulls at. You feel emotionally invested with Carl from early on in the film. As the film progresses, and new characters are introduced so is more humor. Dug, the dog with a special talking collar, to a rare and fantastic looking 13-foot-tall bird who can’t fly, become constant comedic relief.

Special features on the Blu-ray release includes an exclusive animated short film starring Dug, 8 all-new documentaries, alternate scenes, games, and numerous featurettes. Blu-ray is the only way to go on Pixar films, they’re crisp and beautiful – and you can view them as they’re intended to be seen.

With Christmas coming up, it’s the perfect gift for any youngsters or friends you may have that are young at heart. It’s a must-own.
