Corporate ambition makes for strange bedfellows when a hard-nosed executive talks her overworked assistant into a marriage of convenience in The Proposal, arriving on Blu-ray Hi-Def and DVD on October 13, 2009 from Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Review:
The Proposal is exactly what you expect to be: cute, romantic, funny, and in parts completely stupid. But with a cast of Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, and Betty White – you know you’re going to be entertained.

The film revolves around Margaret (Sandra Bullock), an uptight and much hated power woman at a New York publishing company, and Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), Margaret’s assistant who has much bigger dreams of becoming an editor. When it comes to the attention of the Margaret’s bosses that her visa has expired, they tell her she has to pack her bags and head back to Canada. Margaret isn’t about to leave the country and her job without one hell of a fight – hence her informing her bosses that she’s actually engaged to her assistant, Andrew.

The couple manages to convince the guys incharge – despite Andrew’s complete confusion. But now is where the tough part starts. They have to confience a skeptical immigration agent that their relationship is the real deal. In attempts to get to know one another to pass a test on their relationship the following week, Margaret and Andrew head off to Alaska to meet Andrew’s family and convience them that they’re in love.

The best part of this film is Betty White. As a fan of Golden Girls, I find myself having to watch everything she’s involved in due to her inapporiate and totally amusing demeanor. We all wish we knew her – or even someone like her. She’s a riot in this film and carries it even when other scenes may be trying to pull the film down. All-in-all, it’s fun and it’s cute. It’s worth checking out when you have your next movie night.

Checking out the special features on the Blu-ray made me appreciate the ending of the film so much more. The alternate ending is just a hot mess. The deleted scenes are worth checking out though as is the featurette on the outtakes and other absurdities from the set.
