Werewolf: The Beast Among Us
Blu-ray/DVD

Werewolf: The Beast Among Us brings forth another tale in the 19th Century about a European village that is threatened by unavoidable werewolf attacks. Werewolf: The Beast Among Us focuses on a group of hunters that set out to kill any and all creatures that present themselves. So when they stumble into this village of need, they accept the challenge of killing this beast – at the right price, of course. One of the movies main characters, Daniel, played by Guy Wilson, is the smart kid in town who studies with the local doctor and is soon keen on leaving town to further his studies. He is of course witness to the outcome of these horrific attacks and wants to help in the hunt so that he can keep his mother, love interest, and village safe. As attacks continue to happen, it becomes apparent that they are dealing with a monster unlike any they’ve seen before – one that is stronger and much smarter.

Werewolf: The Beast Among Us creates a gruesome atmosphere for this movie by showing lots and lots of gore. They really want you to see just how dire the situation is and how monstrous the werewolf can be. I found it to be almost a bit of overkill on the gore – pun intended. However, they do a good job of setting the atmosphere in this movie and it really gives you a feel for what the townsfolk are going through. There is literally a beast among them and they begin to think it is one of their own and panic grips them. I found the story to be fairly interesting and it never once dropped the ball on anything. As I said, it had a good setting on location in Romania and Transylvania. And for what seems to be a lower end project, they did well with what they had, becoming an enjoyable action/horror film.

The acting is fairly good as well and each character is pretty interesting. In fact, I think they could have given us just a little bit more character interaction within the group of hunters. It’s a very interesting group of characters and the script allows for a bit of a mystery to uncover concerning them. The entire movie is a mystery though, as you try and figure out who the werewolf is and who the hunters are. Is there more than meets the eye here? It can be very interesting and even if you think you’ve figured a few things out, the outcome is still satisfying. Not once did the movie really disappoint but never did I find myself really loving the movie either. It hits the spot for a fun and entertaining movie that people can enjoy with fairly interesting characters, some more than others. The only thing that was a disappointment with the Blu-ray package was the special features they included. There was nothing too special there at all.

For those who enjoy a good action, horror, mystery film – this isn’t one to pass on. Give it a try and you could be fairly satisfied.
