DVD Review: Torchwood: The Complete Second Season

Torchwood follows the adventures of a team of investigators, led by the enigmatic Captain Jack. Set in the UK in the present day, the team use scavenged alien technology in a very real world to solve crime; both alien and human. Separate from the government. Outside the police. Beyond the United Nations. Everyone who works for Torchwood is young, under 35. Some say that’s because it’s a new science. Others say it’s because they die young…

Review:
The 2nd Season of Torchwood does a fine job at topping Season 1, which most shows are rarely able to accomplish. Well-written and well-organized, a consistent mythology emerges, and it will blow your mind!

Torchwood revolves around a team of alien-fighters who investigate the alien underworld… think a British X-Files.This season sees the team encountering their first alien terrorists as well as a solider from the First World War. There are a variety of story arcs to keep you on the edge of your seat.

There’s been a good bit of character development between the two seasons, as well as story lines that have become more mature and engrossing. It should be interesting to see how the momentum will progress into the 3rd Season which will air in 2009. The 3rd Season will bring only 5 episodes to viewers, so we will see if the changes in the format will prove to be a setback or if they will continue to build upon the awesome standards of Season 2.

I also loved how this show ties in with Doctor Who, another fabulous BBC series. Overall, this was a great season and definitely worth picking up if you’re a fan. There are some nice special features which top off the release including: deleted scenes, outtakes, and a couple featurettes.
