DVD Review: 30 Days

An unscripted, documentary-style program where an individual is inserted into a lifestyle that is completely different from his or her upbringing, beliefs, religion or profession for 30 days.

Review:
Premiering with “30 Days of Working in a Coal Mine”, season 3 of the series takes us through new ordeals such as living in a wheelchair, dealing with animal rights, same sex parenting, gun control, and even life on an Indian reservation.

Some of the episodes allow us a peak into worlds that are drastically affected by the 30 day experience. One such episode is the gun control episode (which airs on July 1st), the woman who is the focus of this episode learns to accept that guns are not used solely for killing, that there are other reasons to own them. She sees how owning a gun has saved multiple families through self-protection, and she grows throughout the 30 days to no longer fear them. Whereas other episodes, such as the same sex parenting one (which airs June 24th), we see a religious woman who is steadfast in her way, and she actually makes other people realize that they were the ones that were naive in thinking that they could help her see their point of view.

Educational and entertaining, 30 Days will provide insight into areas that you were unfamiliar with, and help to provide you with a better understanding of the world around you. I highly recommend checking out the 3rd season which premieres of FX starting June 3rd.
