‘Once Upon A Time’ Review: The Return

After waiting for what seems like an eternity, Once Upon A Time is FINALLY back. There’s only three episodes left before the huge season finale, and OUAT isn’t going to slow down pace. After weeks of questions and suspicions, we finally get a bit of insight. Who is August? What happened to Kathryn? And most importantly, will Mary Margaret and David reconcile?!

The Fairytale World:

“If I find a way for you to get rid of the power — a way that doesn’t kill you, or hurt me — would you do it?” -Baelfire (Dylan Schmid)

We are back to the story following Rumplestiltkin (Robert Carlyle)’s change into the dark one. He is powerful, evil, and all fear him — including his son. After witnessing his father murder an innocent man, Baelfire decided to find a way to get his old father back. Just one problem, Rumple isn’t too keen on losing his power. Yet, he agrees to go along with whatever his son says, so long as it doesn’t harm either of them. Cue little blue fairy (Keegan Connor Tracy). She provides Baelfire with a bean that will transport him and his father to a land without magic. Once he receives this bean, he wastes no time in trying to get his father to go to the other side (sounds worse than it is). A swirling hole appears, being their only way of leaving the Fairytale world. The son, as always, is fearless, but Rumple? Not so much. His son begs him to come with him, but he’s too, for lack of a better word, scared.

And that is why Rumplestiltskin was ready to help the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) with the curse.

Storybrooke:

“I’m sick, and I need magic. I was gonna get the savior to believe, but that woman? I don’t think I’m going to make it long enough to see that happen.” -August (Eion Bailey)

Where do I even begin? Between Kathryn’s (Anastasia Griffith) sudden reappearance, to August snooping in on Mr. Gold… There’s so much to say! I’ll try to make this simple. If it wasn’t obvious before, August is well informed of the curse. How? We’re not entirely sure. Mr. Gold believed he was his long lost son, but that possibility was quickly trampled when August tried to use the knife that could control Rumplestiltskin’s dark magic, against him. Now the question we’re all wondering? Who is August’s fairytale counterpart! I’ve been saying this for awhile, and I’m sticking with it (especially after next week’s previews)… August is pinnochio. Think about it. He always on about lying and how he’s good at improv? A nun told Mr. Gold that he was looking for his father? There’s no proof, but I’m guessing it’s Marco (Tony Amendola). When was the first time we were introduced to August? The same episode that we were introduced to Pinnochio. In my opinion, it adds up. I could be wrong, but I’m sticking with it. Now, I’m just anxious to know HOW he got to Storybrooke, how he is going to convince Emma (Jennifer Morrison) of her magic, and why he’s dying. He claims he needs magic, but it isn’t affecting any other fairytale character. So. Many Questions.

If that was’t enough to have your head spinning, get this. Emma is fighting for Henry (Jared Gilmore) now. It took her long enough! Honestly, if you think your child’s adoptive mother is a psychotic bitch, you should definitely look into fixing his housing arrangements ASAP. Regina was definitely behind framing Mary Margaret, but she managed to get Sidney (Giancarlo Esposito) to cover for her. (*Cough* Whipped *Cough*) As much as I love Regina, she has to get put into her place. She ruined MM and David’s relationship, and she MUST pay.

I hope I’m not the only one who was, not only confused, but also anxious throughout the whole episode! ‘The Return’ provided insight, but it also raised a ton of questions. I’m honestly intrigued to know what happened to Rumple’s son. Is he in Storybrooke? If not, where else could he have gone? Secondly, I’m curious to find out more about August, and if my prediction is true. Lastly, when is Regina going to get what’s coming to her? Only three episodes left! The clock is officially ticking.
