‘The Vampire Diaries’ Review: The Rager

Um, what just happened?! After that intense (and highly confusing) episode of The Vampire Diaries, we are left with questions, speculations, and longing for the next episode! This episode, I have to admit, was pretty jammed packed! We were introduced to yet another new character (one whom might throw a wrench in-between Tyler and Caroline!), we get some pretty intense hallucinations, and we come to realize that the hunter is harboring a secret that not even he knows about! Let’s try to break this down…

Tyler (Michael Trevino) is in the hospital, despite his hybrid healing powers. He is then attacked by the hunter, and still ends up getting his ass beat! What?! Okay, I understand that this guy is a badass and everything, but come on! The gang has tried about three or four times already to kill him with no luck? Talk about fail supernatural creatures. Regardless, Connor (Todd Williams) ends up stealing some of Tyler’s werewolf venom, being able to easily kill vampires. I’m going to ignore the question of how he found out Tyler was a werewolf/hybrid in the first place and not a vampire… On to Connor’s next step! Recruiting a new hunter. We get to finally see what the tattoo is all about, and why Jeremy (Steven McQueen) could only see it. It turns out that this tattoo is a special ‘hunter’ marking that only destined hunters have/see. Interesting. Well, after telling Jerbear about his hunting destiny, he sent him off to find vampires! Um, no comment on that. Well, Connor takes it upon himself to find a few vampires as well, and who else to ask, or threaten, than Matt (Zach Roerig). After having a not-so-nice conversation with Rebekah (Claire Holt), Matt feels that she deserves to have a hunter after her… I mean, she kind of does. She stabbed Elena (Nina Dobrev) with a pencil, staining her adorable sweater. Unforgivable.

It’s time to party! While Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is out snooping and getting arrows in the back, Jeremy is doing whatever he does, and Tyler is on house arrest, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena crash Rebekah’s party. They thought they would go, have fun, and rub it in Rebekah’s face… But Rebekah decides to play a few more tricks on Elena (including taking her daylight ring). Elena, being overcome with her heightened emotions, is extremely close to killing Rebekah out of anger, but Stefan reasons with her, and suggests leaving the party. Not before an epic keg stand, though!

Turns out that was a terrible idea, because Connor decided to spike the beer with werewolf venom! Although it isn’t deadly to Rebekah, it still had a toll on her. Cue shipper fueled hallucinations! While Elena is hallucinating about sexy time with Damon, Damon and Klaus are teaming up to take down Connor! It’s all going fine, until Klaus makes a shocking discovery that ends up making Connor valuable enough to be protected by Klaus… Interesting.

I have to say, TVD is really stepping up to the plate this season! It has a lot to live up to, and it’s definitely having no problem doing so. I really enjoyed this episode, although I was a tad confused. Yet, I shouldn’t say anything, because this show constantly confuses me, thrills me, and makes me want to hug my pillow and cry… Sometimes. All in all, this was an amazing, action-packed episode. I’m really liking Damon and Klaus teaming up, along with Klaus backstabbing Damon and teaming up with Connor! I also was thrilled to see Phoebe Tonkin during this episode, I loved her on the Secret Circle, and I’m so happy to have her back on my screen! I definitely approve of where this season’s direction is going, and I’m excited to see how it all pans out!

  • Will Jeremy give in to his hunter destiny?
  • What does Klaus mean by one of the “five”?
  • What are Klaus’s plans for Connor and Elena?
  • How long until Elena finally gives into Damon and the bloodlust?
