Stars’ Fears For California Fires

TOM CRUISE, JOHN TRAVOLTA and BRITNEY SPEARS have spoken of their sadness over the raging wildfire which has swept through California.

The fires, which have seen a quarter of a million people evacuated from their homes, has seen California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declare a state of emergency in seven southern California counties.

Spears admits she feared for her Californian home after hearing news of the fires on Monday (22Oct07).

She says, “I don’t think it touched my house. I’m real scared.”

Travolta admits he was forced to fly his helicopter over the region to ensure his family were safe.

He says, “All I know is the people I know are safe and I’m glad.

“I flew over that today and it’s always a dramatic impression you get from this.”

Cruise – who is currently in London to promote new movie Lions for Lambs – adds, “It’s unfortunate it really is. I wish everybody well back there.”

The coastal area is home to many celebrities, including Mel Gibson, Barbra Streisand, Richard Gere, Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Newton-John and director James Cameron.
