Lohan: Teen Pregnancy ‘Distracting’ In Presidential Election

Actress LINDSAY LOHAN has slammed the U.S. media for focusing on the pregnancy of potential vice-president SARAH PALIN’s teenage daughter instead of more important political issues.

The Mean Girls star has responded to rampant media reports of 17-year-old Bristol Palin’s pregnancy after the Alaskan Governor was chosen as Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s running mate in the November (08) election last week (ends29Aug08).

In a post on her MySpace.com blog, Lohan writes, “I’ve been watching the news all morning, like everyone else – and I keep hearing about the issues related to ‘teen pregnancy’ – it’s all related to Sarah Palin and her 17-year-old unmarried pregnant daughter.

“I think the real problem comes from the fact that we are taking the focus off of getting to know Sarah Palin and her political views, and what she can do to make our country a less destructive place. It’s distracting from the real issues, the real everyday problems that this country experiences.

“I am concerned with the fact that Sarah Palin brought the attention to her daughter’s pregnancy, rather than all world issues and what she believes she could possibly do to change them – if elected… I would much prefer to hear more about what she can do for our country.”

Now, whether or not people would be talking about it if it wasn’t the focus of every news show, talk show, and blog, I don’t know. IMHO, news is becoming too much like entertainment — all about sensationalism and gossip and not about fair and balanced coverage of issues.
