Ledger Fans Want Special Oscars Tribute

HEATH LEDGER fans have called on Academy Awards bosses to hand the late star a special tribute at this year’s (09) Oscars.

In a online poll carried out on Wednesday (21Jan09), the eve of the anniversary of Ledger’s death, more than 3,000 readers logged onto PopEater.com to answer the question: “What would the most fitting tribute to Heath Ledger be, a year after his death?”

Fifty-eight per cent called for a special tribute to the star at the Hollywood ceremony on 22 February (09).

Twenty-seven per cent asked Academy members to nominate Ledger for an Oscar for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight, which he received on Thursday (22Jan09).

A further fifteen per cent asked movie bosses to make a biopic about the tragic star’s life.

Ledger was found dead at his New York home on 22 January 2008. He had suffered an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, aged just 28.

  1. They have done this in the past. They could have a small memorial where they show his body of work. I was actually surprised The Dark Knight was not nominated for more awards. It was a very well-made movie.

  2. I liked Heath Ledger, but I think that Charlton Heston and Paul Newman are more deserving of a special moment at the Oscars. They each did more than four times the work that Ledger did.

  3. Paul Newman definately deserves it more. People talk about Ledger’s body of work, but thinking about Newman’s is no comparison (obviously he was in films for a long time).
