Billy Ray Cyrus: Hannah Montana Destroyed My Family

Billy Ray Cyrus credits the Hannah Montana franchise for the destruction of his once ‘close-knit’ family.

Not only does Cyrus credit the franchise for the way his daughter Miley has acted out recently; the country singer also goes so far as to say that the Disney series is the reason his 17-year marriage to wife Tish failed [and here we all thought her cheating, lies, and shocking Bret Michaels’ affair confessions might have done it…].

“The damn show destroyed my family,” Cyrus says in the March issue of GQ Magazine. “I sit there and go, ‘Yeah, you know what? Some gave all.’ It is my motto, and guess what? I have to eat that one. I some-gave-all’d it all right. I some-gave-all’d it while everybody else was going to the bank. It’s all sad.”

Cyrus goes so far as to say that all of his daughter Miley’s wrong decision; her racy Vanity Fair cover, pole-dancing at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards, that hard-to-ignore bong hitting video….was all due to her “fame due to the series”.

“I’m scared for her. She’s got a lot of people around her that’s putting her in a great deal of danger,” he tells the magazine. “I know she’s 18, but I still feel like as her daddy, I’d like to try to help. Take care of her just a little bit, to at least get her out of danger. I want to get her sheltered from the storm. Stop the insanity just for a minute. When you go through what she’s been through, it takes a beating on you.”

Even more shocking, Cyrus parallels 18-year-old Miley with stars such as Michael Jackson, Kurt Cobain and Anna Nicole Smith. “I’m concerned about Miley. I think that [Cobain’s] world was just spinning so fast and he had so many people around him that didn’t help him.”

Ultimately, the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer wishes Hannah Montana had never happened. “I’d take it back in a second,” he says. “For my family to be here and just everybody be okay, safe and sound, and happy and normal, would have been fantastic.”

Is Cyrus just trying to find somewhere to direct all his pain, sorrow and disgrace? Could the Disney hit series Hannah Montana possibly be the cause of all the troubles in his life? After all, Miley is an 18-year-old girl discovering herself, and Tish is a grown woman who made her own choices. While the spotlight may cause young stars to act out, surely it’s not a tv show’s fault. Is it? If Hannah Montana never happened, are you so sure that Miley wouldn’t have rebelled? Or that Tish wouldn’t have cheated?
