Alan Rubin Dies At 68

Trumpet player Alan ‘Mr. Fabulous’ Rubin passed away from lung cancer last Wednesday at age 68.

Rubin was most commonly known for his role as the trumpet player in The Blues Brothers band, appearing in both Blues Brothers movies. His fellow brothers of blues included John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.

Rubin was an accomplished musician. He enrolled at Juilliard at the age of 17 and went on to collaborate with some major players in music, including Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, Blood Sweat & Tears, Aerosmith, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Billy Joel, the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton.

“Sought out for his expertise in playing every style of music – from classical to jazz to blues to rock and disco – authentically and artistically,” the original Blues Brothers Band said in a statement.
