James Avery Passes Away at 65
James Avery, best known as Uncle Phil on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and the voice of The Shredder in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, has passed away at the age of 65.
Avery died in a Los Angeles hospital December 31st. He had recently undergone open heart surgery and died from complications from the operation. His wife, Barbara, stayed at his bed side but left for a short period of time to get some food. When she came back, she found out he had just passed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Avery’s family and friends.
This is not a good way to start the year. I loved his parts in everything I saw him in. He’ll always be Uncle Phil and Shredder to me.
