I recently got my hands on the Tritton Pro Plus headset and it couldn’t have come at a better time to test it out. It came right alongside the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and what better game is there than that to put the headset to a proper test. However, before I get into that, let me give you a few details on the Tritton Pro Plus.

The Tritton Pro Plus 5.1 surround headset is Tritton’s new higher end model available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It comes with the headset and a decoder box with Dolby digital technology. The headset also comes with a favorite feature of mine, a removable microphone. So, let’s say that you don’t want to play online or speak to anyone. You can easily take it off and enjoy the sounds of any game or movie without the microphone hanging off your cheek. The Tritton Pro Plus is of good size as well and fits well over the ears allowing for maximum comfort. The headset is easy to hook up and comes with all the cables you need. And, while it still has two set of cords to hook up, you won’t have to adjust your component cables for the sound. In fact, you get to bypass it all together with the optical cable that plugs right into both consoles, even if you are using HDMI with your 360.

The Pro Plus headset is easy to use and to figure out, as soon as you power it on. For easy adjustability, it features a backlit control system on the cord to adjust the master volume as well as the front, center, rear and subwoofer volume. You can play around with those options to get the type of sound you want to hear from the game. Turn everything up and you’ll be hearing blasts from all the way across the map. However, I wouldn’t recommend turning everything up to max, especially for specific gaming; you’ll want to adjust it to your preference. I’ve also noticed that usually too much sub ends up drowning out some of the other sounds in the game, so you’ll also want to adjust that to your liking. Obviously, if it’s a music game where you want deep sound, you can easily blast that and enjoy it. But, like I said, the control makes it easy to adjust on the fly. You can also turn up and down the in-game voice volume to create your perfect match experience. It has every control you possibly need and that includes muting the master volume.

Now back to the all-nighters with the Tritton Pro Plus while playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. First of all, you know that feeling when your ears begin to hurt after wearing headphones for too long? Well, playing Black Ops 2 all night put the Tritton Pro Plus to a proper test. I hit 6 hours on a couple of occasions and my ears didn’t bother me one bit. These headphones feel great from the moment you put them on until you take them off. That’s a huge plus for the Tritton Pro Plus on comfort. So whether you are having a normal gaming session or watching a movie, these headphones will feel great the entire time you are wearing them. Their over the ear style fits properly and feels good.

Now to get into the sound of the Tritton Pro Plus. Every footstep, every gunshot and every explosion is heard the way it was meant to be. Its 5.1 surround sound allows you to hear those gunshots in the distance and know exactly which direction it came from which helps alert you properly. I know there are a lot of headphones out there that do the job well, but these do an excellent job. The sound is just as great when you are listening to the game and for what it offers for single player experience instead of online multiplayer. Every noise is heard in good detail. I must say that there were many moments when I would hear something random and then go chase it down. Also, with multiplayer, I would hear the gunshots and run towards them without properly preparing myself for battle, so basically I would run right in to trouble. I had to remind myself on many occasions that just because you heard it don’t mean you run after it right away. It just helps make you more aware.

Before getting the Pro Plus headset, I owned one of Mad Catz older headsets and while they worked, they are nowhere near as nice as these. You can really tell the higher quality; not only because of the great sound, but also because of the quality they poured into the design, look, and feel of the headset. No longer do I have cords running around everywhere from my headset. The Pro Plus hooks up to the decoder box which hides all the cords behind the monitor where they belong. Now, I only have the one cord that goes from the headset into the box making it much easier on the eyes and far easier to take care of. That’s one thing I really love. Overall, the Pro Plus headset is very sleek looking, fantastic sounding and easy to control for those wonderful sounds to enjoy.

The Tritton Pro Plus headset is easily recommendable. You are getting a good quality pair of headphones that are easily adjustable to all of your needs and most importantly are comfortable for long hours of gameplay whether you are going solo or online for intense multiplayer action. Get ready to not only hear the battlefield, but truly feel it through the sounds that the Pro Plus headset offers you.
