Simpson: ‘Chicago Made Me Confident’

Singer ASHLEE SIMPSON has credited her stint in stage musical CHICAGO with boosting her confidence.

The 23-year-old admits she coped badly with negative remarks, but appearing as Roxie Hart in 2006 on London’s West End helped her become more confident of her own ability.

She says, “There was a time when what people said about me could really get to me. But working on Chicago helped me come into my own.

“(Theatre acting) had been a dream of mine ever since I was little, and being able to fulfil it… was amazing. It taught me to be more comfortable with myself.”

And Simpson insists as she gets older, being publicly criticised no longer affects her.

She adds, “I’ve gotten to the point where being credible with myself is more important to me than what anyone else says. People make up stories about you, but they don’t really know you. I’m not fazed by that anymore.”
