1956 – Buddy Holly released his first single, “Love Me.”

1969 – Bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell departed the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

1976 – Brian Wilson joined The Beach Boys on stage for the first time in 12 years. The next night’s show was recorded for an NBC television special on the band.

1981 – Bruce Springsteen played the first ever show at the 21,000 seat Brendan Byrne Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

1986 – Prince’s second movie, “Under The Cherry Moon,” was released.

1991 – Guns n’ Roses frontman Axl Rose incited a riot during a concert outside of St. Louis when he leapt off the stage and attacked a fan who was videotaping the show. Sixty people were injured.

2005 – . The Live 8 concerts, simultaneously held in eight cities around the world, were held to raise awareness of poverty in Africa. On the bill: U2, Coldplay, and Dave Matthews Band, among many others.
