1965 – The Jefferson Airplane gave their debut performance at San Francisco’s Matrix Club.

1965 – The Beatles released their hit single “Help!”

1967 – Joan Baez was barred from performing at the Constitution Hall in Washington, DC by the Daughters of the American Revolution because of her opposition to the Vietnam War.

1980 – Todd Rundgren’s home in Woodstock, New York was invaded by four masked men, who bound and gagged Rundgren, his girlfriend and three houseguests while they stripped the house of valuables.

1990 – Curtis Mayfield was paralyzed when a light rack fell on top of him before a Brooklyn concert.

1995 – R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe had surgery for a hernia.

1999 – The film Detroit Rock City opened in theaters and revolved around teens trying to get to a KISS concert.
