Inside The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards

Whew, what a night! FanBolt Staff Writer Jeanette here and I’m on the 101 Freeway, en route home from The MTV Video Music Awards 2010.

First off, how clever of MTV to scrap the typical red carpet for white? It’s graphic, uber chic and screams Hollywood glamour, making the stars “pop” more than they already do.

When my sparkly gold stilettos carried me inside The Nokia Theatre, I immediately noticed the set design and architecture. As a frequent visitor of television and movie sets, I am in awe of Hollywood’s ability to push the boundaries when it comes to creating the illusion of space. The show was more intimate than one would expect, but onscreen, it resembled a burgeoning spectacle. “Whimsical curves, color techniques and careful lighting arrangements,” I thought. “Portraying grandiosity at it’s finest!”

Some highlights included standing with the MTV camera crew as they interviewed 30 Seconds to Mars, Trey Songz and Drake.

Another amusing moment was being one of the first to witness Lady Gaga’s outlandish black Armani ensemble as she strutted her way out of the dressing room. FYI, of all celebs, Gaga’s entourage was the only one consisting of armed forces!

“Her people do a really good job of keeping her hidden,” I remember a TMZ cameraman revealed. “Because of that, shots of Lady Gaga fetch for a pretty penny!”

I wished I owned a Flip Cam while strolling through the lobby, surrounded by endless glass panels, with Ke$ha. Parades of Justin Bieber fanatics were exiting his outdoor performance when they spotted the “Tik Toc” singer. Shrieking screams and violent pounding on the windows ensued. I thought glass was on the verge of shattering and one Nokia Theatre employee admitted to thinking it was an earthquake! Madness, I tell you.

When it came to performances, Usher’s dance number was visually alluring and reigned supreme. Eminem, who opened the show with Rihanna, is making quite the comeback and received an overwhelmingly positive response from the audience. Though it’s rumored to be lip-synced, Justin Bieber’s performance had energy and the excitement from his wide-eyed, pre-pubescent fanbase added to the thrill.

Of course, I became the envy of those inflicted with “Bieber Fever” when I ran into JB (He was hanging alongside Jaden Smith.) I nonchalantly told Justin I was “diggin’ his outfit.”

Yes, Justin Bieber looked me in the eye and smiled!

Although we did not catch Linkin Park’s performance in the flesh, it was broadcasted live from The Griffith Observatory, not too far from the actual awards ceremony. The backdrop to their set was incredible and I thoroughly enjoyed new single “The Catalyst” from album A Thousand Suns in stores tomorrow.

I’m not one to dwell on negativity, so I’ll keep this brief: Taylor Swift and Kanye West should stop trying to profit off last year’s notorious mic snatching incident. Both performances fell short!

On a lighter note, best female outfit goes to Lady Gaga, playing homage to the late, great Alexander McQueen.

Okay, I admit to being biased. I, too, was donned in Alexander McQueen tonight. However, my dress was from the limited edition Target designer line. I’m fancy, huh? Fancy on a budget!

Best male outfit goes to Jared Leto from 30 Seconds to Mars, who is currently a Twitter trending topic. The layers are proportional to his frame, the cut of his jacket is flattering and the military boots are a definite “do.” Ohhh, what a stunner!

Overall, I had a memorable time at The VMAs. Congrats to all the winners!
