PTC Calls ‘Vampire Diaries’ Out For Being Too Sexual

The Vampire Diaries has gotten the attention of the Parents Television Council (PTC). A new report issued by the PTC named Vampire Diaries and Glee among the top 25 programs which sexualized teen girls.

“The results from this report show Tinseltown’s eagerness to not only objectify and fetishize young girls, but to sexualize them in such a way that real teens are led to believe their sole value comes from their sexuality.” PTC President Tim Winter commented, “Storylines on the most popular shows among teens are sending the message to our daughters that being sexualized isn’t just acceptable, it should be sought after. It is outrageous that TV executives have made it their business to profit off of programs that depict teen girls blissfully being sexualized by casual partners.”

In PTC’s analysis of The Vampire Diaries, they commented saying, “The Vampire Diaries has a large amount of objectionable content. There have been numerous sex scenes involving teenagers, some including violence and vampire lore. Some of the teen sexuality is portrayed as romantic, but other scenes are more intense almost rape-like, with vampires using brainwashing powers to compel others to serve their sexual desires.”

Do you agree with this analysis or do you think it’s completely over the top? We have a feeling that most Vampire Diaries fans wish the show was more sexual, so we doubt they’d agree. Sound off with your thoughts below!

  1. Hang on a minute. Why are they just talking about girls? They mention sex scenes yet talk about how’s it’s sexualizing and objectifying the girls specifically. Once again, these conservative people saying guys having sex is perfectly okay and expected but girls having sex is slutty. Unfair.

  2. That’s a good point. Maybe they consider it a girl show so they’re not considering the boys. That being said, I know guys who watch it so I don’t think that’s a fair assessment either.

  3. Have you noticed how teenage girls dress. Vampire diaries is a television show its fanatasy. i have know guys and girls that are doing way more than whats on tv, it sure would make a vampire blush.

  4. Yeah I agree. I personally don’t feel like we got the first encounter scene we deserved with Elena and Stefan. Probably because they’re saving that moment for Elena and Damon. haha 🙂 At least that’s my hope!

  5. well i wouldnt quite go that far. as i do like TB some of those sex scenes remind me of watching soft porn. but a little more sexual action on VD would be nice

  6. i really dont think VD is that sexual. and it really doesnt matter bout a tv series having sexual content in it. teenager shouldnt know wrong from right. and not to mention i am a big fan of VD and i dont think its sexual enough. and wangkairu your right bout true blood has way more blood and sex in it.
