Julia Louis-Dreyfus Getting New HBO Series ‘Veep’

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is getting a new comedy show on HBO.

The actress stars in the new series Veep which has just been picked up. It is a comedy set in Washington, D.C. It focuses on “former Senator Selina Meyer (Louis-Dreyfus) who becomes Vice President only to discover that the job is nothing like she expected and everything everyone ever warned her about.”

Anna Chlumsky, Sufe Bradshaw, Reid Scott, Tim Simons and Matt Walsh all co-star. Armando Iannucci (The Thick of It) co-wrote and directed the pilot. He executive produces the series with Chris Godsick and Frank Rich, who has a deal with HBO. Simon Blackwell (The Armstrong and Miller show), who co-wrote the pilot with Iannucci, co-executive produces, and Louis-Dreyfus serves as producer.

Veep will begin production in the fall and premiere in 2012.
