‘Veronica Mars’ DVD Review: The Perfect Film for Fans

The Kickstarter premieres and parties are over, and the Veronica Mars movie hype has downed down a bit. Now fans can pick up a copy of the DVD and marathon straight through seasons 1-3… and right on into the film, at least that’s how we recommend doing it.

When I first interviewed Kristen Bell back in 2009, the first thing I asked her was what was the likelihood of a Veronica Mars movie ever happening. Bell told me she’d love to do it, but just wasn’t sure there was enough support and interest there. After all, the fan base of Veronica Mars, passionate though we were/are, we were a pretty small bunch. So needless to say, when I first heard about the Kickstarter campaign last March – I was ecstatic! I had my reservations though, nearly a decade had passed and though I have always believed that Rob Thomas is a genius, it would be tough for anyone to write a film as good as the story they told ten years earlier. That’s exactly what Rob Thomas did though. He made a film that felt like no time had passed… when in reality and in the film’s plot – 10 years had indeed passed.

Veronica Mars Movie Description

Veronica Mars (Bell) has put Neptune and her amateur sleuthing days behind her on the eve of graduating law school. While interviewing at high-end law firms, Veronica gets a call from her ex-boyfriend Logan (Dohring) who has been accused of murder. Veronica heads back to Neptune just to help Logan find an attorney, but when things don’t seem right with how Logan’s case is perceived and handled, Veronica finds herself being pulled back into a life she thought she had left behind.

I first saw the film surrounded by fans in what was an unforgettable experience. I attended the Kickstarter NYC premiere and after party. The amazing after party aside, what I loved most about the experience was all the little Easter eggs hidden throughout the film. They may seem like nothing special to someone seeing the characters for the first time, but to us real fans – we couldn’t help but laugh and feel a beautiful sense of comradery as we watched the movie together. So many familiar faces, witty one liners and the ultimate epic love story that is Veronica and Logan… It had everything – even James Franco.

Veronica Mars Movie Trailer

All in all, it’s a solid film whether you’ve seen this sassy PI before or not. But if you are a fan, it feels like this movie was made just for you. I can’t imagine that any fans weren’t pleased with it… except maybe Piz fans… Even that aside, you can’t argue that this epic story ended just the way it was supposed to.

No spoilers here though… though I imagine most of you reading this will have already seen the film. Please share with me your thoughts – did you love it as much as I did? Did you pledge any money to the Kickstarter campaign?
