Chris Meloni Leaving ‘Law and Order: Special Victims Unit’

Chris Meloni will not return for the 13th season of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Meloni has been playing the role of Detective Elliot Stabler since 1999. Earlier this month, it was reported that Mariska Hargitay was signed on for the 13th season, but only for the first 13 episodes. Her character, Detective Olivia Benson, will reportedly be promoted to a higher position and a new detective, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, will take her place.
