Sarah Michelle Gellar Is Back This Fall In ‘Ringer’

My first thoughts when I watched Ringer? This plot seems eerily familiar to The Lying Game… yet it has the look and feel of Nikita. I am super excited to see Sarah Michelle Gellar back on primetime, but I was less than thrilled with the pilot of Ringer which other media outlets have praised. CBS passed on this for a reason guys, and it’s not because Gellar was better suited for The CW after having been in Buffy.

Ringer is about twins (Bridget and Siobhan) – both played by Gellar. Bridget, after witnessing a murder, goes on the run, hiding out by assuming the life of her wealthy identical twin sister – only to learn that her sister’s seemingly idyllic life is just as complicated and dangerous as the one she’s trying to leave behind.

The story seems solid enough, but the execution just isn’t up to par. Gellar seems detached from both roles. Perhaps she’s just spread through to thin here, but it’s hard to feel an emotional connection to the characters. Even Gellar’s more die-hard fans will find this role a little lackluster. She’s not the ass-kicking, vampire-slaying blonde that you’re used to. In fact, in this role, she doesn’t have much of an ass-kicking quality to her at all. She comes across as weak.

Another side note, Jason Dohring (aka Logan from Veronica Mars) has joined the series as well and will play Mr. Carpenter, a high school teacher at the school which Juliet (Zoey Deutch), the stepdaughter of Manhattan socialite Siobhan Martin (Gellar), attends. Super excited to see so many of my old favorites back on primetime this fall, just wish I had liked this series a little bit more… I’ll give it a few episodes, but so far it’s not won me over.

Don’t miss the series premiere of Ringer this Tuesday at 9/8c!
