Brad Pitt’s ’12 Monkeys’ Character Becomes Woman in New Syfy Series

Brad Pitt’s character from hit Terry Gilliam film 12 Monkeys has had a sex change for the upcoming Syfy TV spin-off and the actress taking on the role has already been cast.

Pitt’s Jeffrey Goines becomes mental patient Jennifer Goines in the new series, and actress Emily Hampshire has signed on to play her.

According to Syfy, the show follows the journey of a time traveler (Bruce Willis’ character from the film, portrayed in the show by Aaron Stanford) from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.

Aaron Stanford, Kirk Acevedo, Amanda Schull, Noah Bean and Tom Noonan have also joined the cast of the project. The series will officially begin production in Toronto, Canada next week.

Hampshire’s Goines is described by the network as a dangerous, unstable mental patient who might have the key to unraveling the mystery of the 12 Monkeys locked away in her head.

Producer of the original film Charles Roven will Executive Produce the series, along with Richard Suckle(American Hustle, The International).

The show will debut on Syfy in January.
