Celebrity Style: How to Do a Smokey Eye with NARSissist Smokey Eye Kit

Ever wonder how to do a smokey eye and get that perfect celebrity red carpet look? That was my goal walking into a number of celebrity parties at Comic-Con last week.

NARS Cosmetics recently introduced the Smokey Eye Kit, a limited-edition kit that has everything you need to create the perfect smokey eye. Exactly what FanBolt needed for a night out at NBC’s Comic-Con 2014’s Party – where press got to mingle with cast members from this fall’s new series Constantine.

Even though my red eyes always plague me in photos shot with my iPhone, my demon eyes work well when paired with Matt Ryan who will play Constantine.

I went for a subtle smokey eye in the image to the left- I started by using a primer on my lid – a must of you want a dramatic look. Then, using the wide contour brush, I applied the Madrague (lightest color) shadow over my full lid up to my brow bone, and then I swept over with Bali (the middle color) over just my eyelid. I finished up with Mekong (the darkest color) in the outer 1/3 crease of my eye and outer lid – then I blended inwards with a soft dome brush that always travels with me. I finished up with the mini Via Veneto Larger Than Life® eyeliner (which then went into my purse just in case I needed any touch ups) and of course mascara. I applied the makeup around 6pm and by the time I threw in the towel at 1am – it still looked perfect.

You can always go heavier on the eyeshadow and eyeliner for a more dramatic look. However, since I’m pretty fair-skinned – I try not to go too dark as I feel it’s a bit too harsh for me. Below I have a more modernized, subtle smokey eye using the same kit and technique. Not nearly as bold as the NBC party look, but perfect for a less dramatic look.

Overall, I love that this kit is travel sized and is basically all I need for a night out look that I can play up or down – just make sure you have a good brush for blending as well – as the wide contour brush (while awesome) isn’t great for blending.

  1. I love this! That’s the exact issue I have with smokey eyes – I feel like I look like a raccoon because I’m so pale. Probably paler than you 🙂 I’m going to try these colors out though as I like the look on you – it’s still dramatic but not raccoon-y. Nice post!
