Miley Cyrus’ TV Special Sparks FCC Investigation

Broadcasting standards officials have launched an investigation over allegations Miley Cyrus’ recent concert special on NBC was unsuitable for primetime TV.

Officials at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) were inundated with viewer complaints after Miley Cyrus: Bangerz Tour aired last month, during the Independence Day holiday weekend.

The show, featuring footage from the pop star’s provocative new tour, was considered a ratings flop as it only brought in 2.2 million viewers, but now it could spell further trouble for network executives at NBC amid concerns they allowed obscenity on air.

According to TMZ.com, a slew of viewers voiced concerns about Cyrus’ revealing, barely-there costumes and her behavior onstage, including frolicking in a bed with half-naked male and female dancers and grinding against a man dressed up as former U.S. President and civil rights icon Abraham Lincoln.

FCC representatives are now looking into the issue to determine if the show violated its rules on broadcasting “sexual or excretory activity”, which could land NBC bosses a hefty fine.
