The Lonely Island to Star in Musical Comedy Film

Andy Samberg’s comedy rap group The Lonely Island is getting the big screen treatment with its own musical comedy.

The funnyman and his bandmates, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, will star in an untitled film set in the music world.

Director/writer Judd Apatow will produce the film alongside Samberg, while Schaffer and Taccone will co-direct the project.

The Lonely Island first garnered acclaim for their viral video digital shorts featured on Saturday Night Live, collaborating with top artists such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Adam Levine, which even earned them a Grammy nomination and Emmy Award in 2007 for their song “D**k in a Box” with Justin Timberlake.

The trio also worked on the 2007 comedy Hot Rod, which starred Samberg and Taccone and was directed by Schaffer.
