Jessica Chastain Calls Out Marvel Over Lack of Black Widow Film Plans

Jessica Chastain has called out Marvel bosses for creating solo feature films for most of The Avengers except Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow.

The Zero Dark Thirty star was lamenting the lack of major action roles for women in film in an interview with TheWrap.com, and she noted that Johansson, who plays the Russian spy in the Marvel movies, has yet to have her own starring vehicle.

Chastain says, “Where is the Scarlett Johansson superhero movie? I don’t understand it, why is it taking so long for this?

“This woman clearly shows that people want to go see her in the movies… She shows that she kicks a**, she’s a great actress. Under the Skin is an incredible film, and why are we still waiting for a go-ahead on a superhero movie starring Scarlett Johansson?

“To me, it’s a no-brainer. You want to make money, put Scarlett Johansson in a superhero movie!”
Chastain isn’t the only one clamoring for a Black Widow spin-off – many fans have also called on studio bosses to give the character her own movie.

Earlier this summer (14), Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige responded to the requests via Comic Book Resources, saying he and his colleagues have not completely ruled out a Black Widow film.

He explained, “It comes down to timing, which is what I’ve sort of always said, and it comes down to us being able to tell the right story. I hope we do it sooner rather than later.”
