Big Directors Want A Chance At ‘Doctor Who’

It looks like everyone wants a shot at the madman with a box lately. In the last week or so both Peter Jackson, director of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, and Rian Johnson director of the soon-to-be-released Looper have expressed interest in directing episodes of Doctor Who.

Peter Jackson revealed his enthusiasm for the show in response to a Waikato Times interview with Matt Smith. “I’m a huge Doctor Who fan, and I think Matt’s fantastic. Just name a time and place, and I’ll be there!”

Rian Johnson, on the other hand, threw his hat in the ring in an “Ask Me Anything” chat on Reddit. When asked by a fan what TV show he’d most like to direct, Johnson answered, “I’d love to do a Game of Thrones. But what I’d really kill to try, although it would be terrifying because I’m such a big fan of it? Doctor Who.”

I’d love to see either of these happen. Who would be your choice?

  1. The WORST thing they could do to Dr. Who is make it more “Hollywood”. Its popular because its quirky and British… we don’t need Jackson have epic sweeping battle scenes or Johnson have 2 minute long brooding stare competitions in the middle of one of the best shows on tv anywhere in the world.
