AMC Greenlights Pilot for ‘The Walking Dead’ Companion Series

AMC has given the greenlight to a pilot for a companion series to hit show The Walking Dead.

The project was first made public last September and will be helmed by the same creative minds behind The Walking Dead including Robert Kirkman, Dave Erickson, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert.

The idea for the companion series is that it’s set during the same zombie apocalypse as The Walking Dead, but in a totally different location in the world and with a new cast.

Robert Kirkman issued a statement to saying, “There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill. I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of The Walking Dead, and I’m happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them.”

The pilot is scheduled to begin production in late 2014.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday Oct. 12 at 9/8c.
