George Clooney and Maggie Smith Share a Kiss in Upcoming ‘Downton Abbey’ Charity Episode

Dame Maggie Smith will be the envy of Downton Abbey fans all over the world when she puckers up to smooch Hollywood hunk George Clooney in a charity episode of the show.

The Hollywood star, who is due to wed fiancee Amal Alamuddin this month, appears in a mini-episode of the hit period drama to raise money for upcoming British charity fundraiser Text Santa.

Clooney’s character takes an instant liking to Smith’s stern Dowager Countess of Grantham, and the 79-year-old is so stunned by his kiss that she falls off her chair.

Downton Abbey star Laura Carmichael tells British TV show This Morning, “There’s a very brilliant moment with Maggie and George, I don’t know if I’m meant to give away more than that really but you will see. Maggie does a very comedy fall.”

This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield adds, “She rolls off a chair,” prompting Carmichael to reply, “Yes, George chances a kiss and Maggie ends up on the floor. It’s wonderful, she was hilarious.”

The Text Santa campaign, which raises funds for several charities, takes place in the U.K. in December.
