NBC To Reboot ‘Murder, She Wrote’

NBC is developing a reboot of the classic TV series Murder, She Wrote with Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer (The Help) set to play the role made famous by Angela Lansbury.

The show is being described as a “re-imagining” of the original series. NBC has given the show a “put pilot commitment,” which means the network will owe substantial fees if the pilot is not aired. Former Desperate Housewives executive producer Alexandra Cunningham will write and serve as executive producer for the show. The series is said to have a “light, contemporary” tone, not unlike Bones. Lansbury has also reportedly been asked to be a part of the project in some capacity.

Lansbury played amateur detective J.B. Fletcher for 12 seasons of the original show, which ran from 1984 to 1996.
