Hugh Grant Not Returning to Newest ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’ Installment

British actor Hugh Grant has decided not to take part in the new Bridget Jones’ Diary film.

Grant played Jones’ love interest Daniel Cleaver in the previous two movies opposite Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth, but will not be included in the upcoming third installment.

In a interview with British radio station Free on Friday, Grant confirms he has “decided not to do it.”

He adds, “I think they’re going to go ahead and do it without Daniel. The book’s excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different – well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago.”

Author Helen Fielding did include Grant’s character in her latest book Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, but she has reportedly produced an alternative story without him for the film. Zellweger and Firth are both believed to be onboard for the third movie.
