Lily Rabe Returns to ‘American Horror Story’ as Sister Mary Eunice

Lily Rabe’s Sister Mary Eunice made American Horror Story: Asylum fans run the emotional gamut, transforming from a pure, meek nun into a Devil-possessed, red lingerie wearing hellion during the show’s second season and now she’s set to reprise her role on Freak Show (pre-possession, we’re assuming).

According to Entertainment Weekly, “The reason for Sister Mary’s return involves Pepper (Naomi Grossman) and how she ended up going from the freak show to Asylum‘s titular institution, Briarcliff. Rabe’s appearance will be on AHS‘ 10th episode, which is their big winter cliffhanger.”

Asylum fans will remember that Pepper’s backstory involves her being convicted for murdering her sister’s baby’s then cutting his ears off, but later admits that it was all a lie and that her family just wanted to be rid of her. Whether or not that will tie into the Freak Show plotline remains to be see, but since Freak Show and Asylum take place in the same universe, I definitely hope they tie her backstory into the new season as canon.

Now if you’re a hardcore fan like myself, you know that whenever anyone talks about the hit show and tries to speculate about returning cast members, a few select names will pop up every time…one of those being Lily Rabe. Not only did she steal scenes as Asylum‘s Sister Mary Eunice, but also during Murder House, as uber-unpleasant ghost Nora Montgomery, and last season’s Coven as the Free People wearing, Stevie Nicks-obsessed witch Misty Day. Word for this season was that she was too busy filming her ABC television series The Whispers, however, so her Freak Show return seems almost (excuse the pun) miraculous.
