‘How to Get Away with Murder’ Star Viola Davis Executive Producing New Legal Drama

Viola Davis is executive producing a new drama based on a real-life female legal eagle in Michigan.

The Oscar nominee is using her knowledge as an attorney on hit U.S. drama How to Get Away With Murder to produce Conviction, a program inspired by Kym Worthy, the chief prosecutor of Wayne County, Michigan, and known as the toughest woman in Detroit.

Worthy is only the second African-American to serve as a county prosecutor in the state, and has taken on a number of high-profile cases over the years, including filing charges against former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who was charged with 24 federal felony counts, including mail fraud, wire fraud, and racketeering last year.

Davis will produce the series with husband Julius Tennon through their JuVee Productions, along with Sparkle producer Debra Martin Chase.
