‘Mad Men’ Creator Matthew Weiner Frustrated By Cast’s Lack of Recognition

Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner is frustrated that none of the actors on the hit drama have been rewarded for their work by the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences.

The 1960s-set program has been critically acclaimed since its debut in 2007, earning nominations in multiple awards, but none of their wins have ever included Emmys for any of the actors.

Prior to receiving the Founders Award from the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences last week, Weiner expressed his disappointment in the American Academy during a question and answer session.

He said, “One of my great frustrations is that they haven’t been recognized more. None of these actors has ever won an Emmy and they are the gold standard. I still feel like their contribution has been unrecognized.”

While Weiner himself has won three trophies for the show, plus four consecutive Outstanding Drama Series prizes, Mad Men‘s stars including John Slattery, Christina Hendricks, Robert Morse, and Elisabeth Moss have all lost out on acting accolades.

Most notably, the show’s leading man, Jon Hamm, has been up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series each of the seven years the show has been on the air, but has lost every time
