Bill Cosby Resigns From Temple University Board of Trustees Amid Scandal

Embattled comedian Bill Cosby has resigned from the Board of Trustees at his Pennsylvania alma mater amid a string of of sexual assault allegations.

The Cosby Show star hit headlines last month as a number of women, including actresses and models, went public with rape claims against the comic, after Hannibal Buress poked fun at the veteran’s alleged bad reputation during a stand-up show in October.

Former model Janice Dickinson and actresses Louisa Moritz and Michelle Hurd were among those who alleged Cosby drugged and sexually assaulting them.

His attorney has repeatedly blasted the accusations, which have led to a number of concert cancellations on the comedian’s current U.S. tour, but now Cosby has decided to step down as a member of the Board of Trustees at Temple University, where a scholarship was created in the name of the actor and his wife, Camille.

In a statement issued by Cosby to board executives, he wrote:

“I have always been proud of my association with Temple University. I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the university and its students. As a result, I have tendered my resignation from the Temple University Board of Trustees.”

His resignation comes a decade after he was accused of drugging and sexually assaulting Temple employee Andrea Constand. The two parties settled the suit in 2006.

Cosby, who has never faced criminal charges over the historic allegations, also recently stepped down from his role as co-chairman of a fundraising campaign for another of his former schools, the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he received a master’s degree and a doctorate in education in the 1970s.
