Sony Chairman Amy Pascal Breaks Her Silence on Sony Hacking

Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Amy Pascal has broken her silence on the recent Sony hacking. From upcoming films to employee information being leaked, it’s an attack that doesn’t seem to be letting up. At the center of the hacking, Pascal’s personal emails have gathered a lot of media attention.

Sony recently shut down filming on current projects, and North Korea is believed to be behind the attacks. However, no one from Sony has been too vocal on addressing those embarrassing emails that were made public… until now. Amy Pascal spoke with Deadline about the situation just a few days ago.

“I didn’t want to talk before. I didn’t want to make this about me. Everyone at this company has been violated and nobody here deserved this.” Pascal explained her silence on the leak. “Then the most hurt email came out… I’m so disappointed in myself, that I ever would have had such a lapse in my thinking.”

Pascal also said that she was deeply embarrassed by her email regarding President Barack Obama where a series of messages were exchanged with Hollywood producer Scott Rudin.

In one exchange, he suggests the African-American leader is a fan of Kevin Hart’s movie Ride Along, writing, “I bet he likes Kevin Hart.”

Pascal and Rudin also joked about the President’s preference for movies about African-Americans. Pascal asked, “Should I ask him if he liked DJANGO?”

Rudin replied, “12 YEARS (a Slave).”

Rudin has since apologized for the messages leaked involving him. Rudin’s statement said, “I made a series of remarks that were meant only to be funny, but in the cold light of day, they are in fact thoughtless and insensitive – and not funny at all. To anybody I’ve offended, I’m profoundly and deeply sorry, and I regret and apologize for any injury they might have caused.”

As far as apologies from Pascal, she did note that she had called Rev. Al Sharpton and that she hopes they can use this opportunity to make things better.

“I’ll apologize to everybody, every day, but I have to run this company. That means taking care of the employees here, and so I have to be strong because I have a big company here. The truth is, all anyone is talking about are these e-mails.” Pascal commented “It is important not to forget that a crime was committed, and that this is the new way of the world.”

  1. Forget North Korea. That movie in itself was racist towards any asian person. Just because the public doesn’t sanction you, Amy Pascal, for approving such a subtle racist movie does not mean it’s okay. I like how you bend over, however, when your racist e-mails get leaked about President Obama. The African American community have powerful public figures who raise their voice on racial issues such as this. The Asian American community should feel the same.

  2. Funny stuff.

Tsk, tsk – good Hollywood leftists mocking a good leftist president? What is this world coming to? I love when the masks come off and these hypocrites reveal who they really are behind closed doors and keyboards.

Just in case you were off planet when the Edward Snowden NSA Scandal came to light, there is really no such thing as 100% secure file storage if its connected to the internet. Especially if you use any third party storage… I store EVERYTHING on a portable hard drive… and dis-connect it when I am not using it.. You can get a terabyte portable hard drive for around $150.00, I never have to worry about losing anything or anyone stealing my files…and I don’t pay a monthly fee..

Hell, I don’t even really use my “smart phone”. My old dumb-one is good enough for me and its cheaper. It’s a waste of money just like so many other things in America like student loans (get a cheap education!), expensive car insurance (my $25/month policy from Insurance Panda is good enough for me), and fast food (who wants to pay $10 for a Chipotle burrito?!?).

Also – One way to completely ensure there are no bad photos of yourself that could wind up in an embarrassing situations is to NOT take them. Seems pretty logical to me… And if you don’t want your racist emails coming to light, don’t write them!

    1. I totally agree. There’s a difference between being genuinely sorry for something and sorry you got caught. At this point she’s just saving face to keep hold of her cushy, high-powered job.
