Sam Smith Loses Voice Days Before Scheduled Grammy Performance

Sam Smith has lost his voice just days before his first-ever performance at the Grammy Awards.

The “Stay With Me” hitmaker was scheduled to belt out his smash hit ballad at the award ceremony on Sunday, but his place in the line-up has been thrown into jeopardy after he fell sick this week.

Smith postponed the penultimate show of his tour in Seattle, Washington hours before the concert started on Monday due to his vocal issues, and fans now fear he may not recover in time for his big night.

In a post on Facebook, Smith writes, “Seattle, I’m so sad and upset to announce I’ve had to reschedule… My voice has given in. We are rescheduling the show… I’m so sorry to anyone who has travelled to Seattle from far away and to all of you. I promise to make it up to you the minute my voice is back.”

The status of Smith’s final tour date in Vancouver, Canada on Wednesday remains uncertain.

He is nominated for six prizes at the Grammy Awards, which will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday.
