‘Still Alice’ Star Julianne Moore on Preparing Acceptance Speeches Early: ‘It’s Bad Juju’

Julianne Moore will be improvising her speech if she scoops the Best Actress award at the upcoming Oscars because she fears preparing her words in advance is a jinx.

The star has been nominated for an Academy Award on four previous occasions but has never won, and she is hoping it will be fifth time lucky when the 2015 ceremony takes place on February 22.

However, if she does scoop the honor for her role as a professor battling early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in Still Alice, she will be thanking her colleagues, family and friends on the hoof because she has no speech prepared.

Moore tells talk show host Graham Norton, “I haven’t won four so far and this is my fifth nomination… No (I haven’t prepared a speech), I think it’s bad juju. I don’t like to prepare anything. I don’t want to jinx it.”

One movie Julianne doesn’t have to worry about preparing award speeches for (or even being nominated for anything really) is the newly released Seventh Son.
