John Legend Thought Kanye West’s Grammy Awards Stunt Was ‘Funny’

John Legend has defended his rapper pal Kanye West’s interruption of Beck during the singer’s big win at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards ceremony.

The Stronger hitmaker took to the stage as Beck received the Album of the Year accolade and appeared to be ready to protest against the singer’s win in a repeat of his infamous moment at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009, when Taylor Swift beat his pal Beyonce for a top video prize.

However, on Sunday, the rapper simply smiled and returned to his seat, before later calling on Beck to give the Queen Bey his award in the name of “artistry”.

Legend has now jumped to his pal’s defense by insisting West meant no harm, telling Us Weekly magazine, “I thought it was funny, I looked at it as just a funny thing that people were going to talk about. It didn’t hurt anybody. Anybody who’s upset just needs to relax. It was funny.

“Beck won his award fair and square. Beck is super talented and I have several of his albums and I’ve listened to him for a long time. I think people were surprised that he won but that doesn’t mean he’s not deserving, that just means people thought other people were going to win too.”
