Super Smash Bros. DLC Announced, Includes Mewtwo, Lucas, and Mii Outfits

Gamers enjoying Super Smash Bros. For 3DS and Wii U have been patiently waiting for details on Mewtwo’s return to the popular Nintendo franchise. However, not only do they not need to wait any more for details, they don’t need to wait much longer to actually play as him either. The genetically-engineered psychic powerhouse is coming back to the roster in April, according to the recent Nintendo Direct broadcast. Club Nintendo members who registered game codes for both Super Smash Bros. For 3DS and Wii U before March 31st will receive Mewtwo for free on April 15. Everyone else will be able to buy him on April 28 for $4 for one version, or $5 for both platforms. Mewtwo’s April 15th launch will come alongside a new balance patch for the game.

Also announced in the Nintendo Direct was the return of Lucas. Originating in the Japanese only game Mother 3, he made his first stateside appearance in Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Wii, but was left out of the current game. No price has been revealed for him, however he will be available as DLC sometime in June.

Finally, wrapping up the current DLC window for the games are a series of special Mii Fighter outfits. Most of the body portions of the outfits included are specific to certain Mii Fighters, but the headgear from every set can be used by any type. These include sets based on Link from The Legend of Zelda, Dunban from Xenoblade Chronicles, Proto Man and Mega Man X from the Mega Man franchise, among a few others. All the outfit sets and prices can be seen here.

Of all the announced content for Super Smash Bros., I’m personally excited for Mewtwo and the Mega Man X and Proto Man outfits the most. I had an absolute blast playing as Mewtwo in Super Smash Bros. Melee over the years, and seeing his Melee moveset updated with his new Mega Evolution final smash is really exciting for me. Also, opening Mewtwo’s trailer with the “Strikes Back” tagline as a callout to the first Pokemon movie is a nice touch. As a big fan of the Mega Man series, seeing my favorite variation of the Blue Bomber with X, as well as my favorite classic series character in Proto Man both getting Gunner costumes will probably get me to use my Mii Gunner more.
