Which ‘Game of Thrones’ Storyline Are You Excited to See Unfold?

Last night was the highly anticipated premiere of the fifth season of Game of Thrones. The season opener did a great job of letting fans check in on most of their favorite characters following the events of last year’s explosive finale, and left them looking forward to what’s to come.

SPOILERS AHEAD! IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE SEASON 5 PREMIERE YET, CLICK AWAY!

The premiere didn’t get too deep into the drama and action we’ve all come to love (although there was still plenty of it…just not normal Game of Thrones-level plenty), but was more of an hour long peek into the current state of most of the characters, as well as our first (but hopefully not last) Cersei-centric flashback.

Cersei is still pissed at Tyrion for murdering their father and seems more concerned about getting revenge than maintaining order within the kingdom, now that she’s in control. Meanwhile, Tyrion was busy being rolled out of a crate at a hideaway in Pentos, thanks to some help from Varys. Traveling by sea in a tiny box clearly does things to a man’s morale, because this Tyrion is no longer the fun-drunk Tyrion we know and love, but is now a sad cry-into-your-bottle Tyrion that throws up and keeps drinking.

Jon Snow is doing what he can to keep tension down on The Wall, but when Stannis Baratheon asks him to help recruit the Wildlings and Mance Rayder to follow him in battle, things go south. Three men with huge egos in a room is no good for anyone, and the inevitable happened…one of them ended up dead (RIP Mance).

We also got to see how Sansa and Littlefinger, Brienne and Pod and Margaery and Loras Tyrell were faring (the Tyrell scene being the most squick-worthy of the night). Although we didn’t catch up with Arya this week, next week looks like it will be an Arya-heavy episode to make up for it (and we’ll head to DORNE!!! RIP Oberyn)

Fans know that a few character’s storylines will converge this year, as hinted in season posters and teasers released by HBO, but until that happens, we’ll continue to follow the major players down their individual paths as they try to stay alive.
